From novels to the big screen! Abigail Wen’s bestselling young adult novel, “Loveboat, Taipei” has been acquired by Paramount+ and will be made into a romance film titled, “Love in Taipei.” The film stars Ashley Liao, who has starred in “Fresh Off the Boat,” “Fuller House,” and the upcoming “The Hunger Games: The Battle of Songbirds and Snakes.”
Liao will take on the role of Ever Wong, a young Asian American girl who is surprised when her parents enroll her in a cultural immersion program in Taipei, Taiwan. However, instead of the expected educational experience, Ever finds herself immersed in the “Loveboat” program, a summer-long adventure filled with romance and self-discovery.
As Ever navigates her attraction to two different boys, she also must gather the courage to pursue her true passion for dancing and defy her parents’ high expectations, an authentic Asian dilemma.
Ross Butler will take on the role of Rick Woo, who is adept in both sports and academics. Nico Hiraga plays the character of Xavier Yeh, a carefree artist and heir to a multinational tech empire. The film is directed by Arvin Chen and was shot on location in Taipei.
