‘The Wild Robot’: DreamWorks Animates a Literary Masterpiece

From DreamWorks Animation comes an exciting new adaptation of Peter Brown’s celebrated novel, “The Wild Robot.” This film promises to bring the heartwarming story of a robot’s journey in the wilderness to life in a way that will captivate audiences of all ages.

“The Wild Robot” unfolds the epic tale of Roz, a ROZZUM unit 7134, affectionately known as Roz. Shipwrecked on a desolate island, Roz must navigate the complexities of survival amidst nature’s trials. As she adapts to her environment, Roz forges unique bonds with the island’s inhabitants and becomes a surrogate mother to an orphaned gosling, Brightbill.

Academy Award® winner Lupita Nyong’o stars as Roz. Alongside Nyong’o, the film features an all-star cast, including Pedro Pascal as the cunning fox Fink, Catherine O’Hara as the witty opossum Pinktail, Bill Nighy as the wise goose Longneck, and Kit Connor as the curious gosling Brightbill. The film also includes Oscar® nominee Stephanie Hsu as Vontra, a robot whose path intersects with Roz’s on the island.

Mark Hamill lends his voice to the film, along with Matt Berry and Ving Rhames. The film is directed and written by Chris Sanders, a three-time Oscar® nominee known for his work on DreamWorks Animation’s “How to Train Your Dragon and Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch.It’s produced by Jeff Hermann, known for his work on “The Boss Baby 2: Family Business.

Peter Brown’s original novel, first published in 2016, quickly became a bestseller and garnered numerous accolades. The book’s success led to a trilogy, including “The Wild Robot Escapes and “The Wild Robot Protects, further establishing Brown’s impact in children’s literature. His work has been recognized with a Caldecott Honor, multiple E.B. White Awards, and several other prestigious honors, affirming his status as a significant contributor to children’s storytelling.

“The Wild Robot promises to be more than just an animated film; it is a powerful exploration of self-discovery, the intersection of technology and nature, and the essence of life and connectivity. With its thoughtful adaptation of a beloved book and an impressive creative team, the film is set to be a memorable addition to the world of animated drama.

Fans can look forward to its theatrical release on September 27.

Chris Sanders, Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o, and “Heartstopper” star Kit Connor will be making an appearance at Comic-Con on July 27 at 4 pm to discuss the film.
