In Last Breath, deep-sea diver Chris Lemons (played by Finn Cole) becomes stranded 300 feet below the North Sea after a catastrophic accident severs his lifeline to the surface. With only minutes of oxygen remaining and a brutal storm preventing an immediate rescue, his crew—led by a seasoned diver, Duncan (played by Woody Harrelson), and a determined engineer, David (played by Simu Liu)—must defy impossible odds to bring him back before time runs out. Based on a harrowing true story, this survival thriller explores the limits of human endurance and the power of teamwork in the face of certain death.
I went into Last Breath knowing very little about the true story behind it—and by the time the credits rolled, I was completely stunned. This film takes us deep into the terrifying reality of deep-sea diving, where one wrong move can mean certain death.
Woody Harrelson is fantastic, bringing a steady yet comedic presence to the film. It was also great to see Simu Liu as David, the no-nonsense, serious team member who is all business. It’s a role that’s different from what we’re used to and he brings a grounded intensity that really works.
Let’s talk about Finn Cole, his underwater performance as a diver stranded on the ocean floor is absolutely gripping.
The underwater sequences are some of the most intense I’ve ever seen. The way they’re shot makes you feel every ounce of pressure, every second of dwindling oxygen. At times, I literally caught myself holding my breath in the theater. The stakes are sky-high, and knowing that this actually happened makes it all the more mind-blowing.
Tense, emotional, and visually stunning -Last Breath isn’t just a survival thriller—it’s an experience.
Last Breath is in theaters on February 28.
