The Sacrifices Behind Muhammad Ali’s Greatness: Omari Hardwick and Dana Gourrier on Family and Love
Hollywood First Look sits down with Omari Hardwick and Dana Gourrier to explore The Greatest, Prime Video’s authorized scripted series about Muhammad Ali, revealing the complicated emotions, family dynamics, and personal sacrifices behind the boxing legend’s extraordinary rise.
Omari reflects on portraying Cassius “Cash” Clay Sr., a father whose pride in his son’s accomplishments is accompanied by reminders of his own unrealized dreams. He explains why Cash’s feelings aren’t rooted in envy but in recognizing opportunities that were never available to him. Dana shares how playing Odessa “Bird” Clay taught her about the power of femininity and the quiet strength of a woman who carried enormous responsibilities while holding her family together. Their conversation takes a deeply personal turn as they explore the sacrifices women make for their families, with Omari reflecting on his own mother’s decision to put her dreams aside while raising him and his brother.
