On September 11, Poppy Nightclub in West Hollywood became home to a gala honoring Alexis Arquette, raising funds for The Alexis Project. The Arquette family and The Alexis Project championed the event. It brought together celebrities and supporters, uniting everyone for a poignant and glamorous evening.
Attendees included David Arquette, Rosanna Arquette, Milla Jovovich, Stephen Baldwin, Gurus Magazine editor-in-chief Derek Warburton, Joely Fisher, and Frances Fisher. L.A. drag icon Jackie Beat hosted the festivities. The night included sets from DJ duo The McLarens, with special performances by Sherry Vine and trans actress Candis Cayne.
Delicious hors d’oeuvres and Alexis-inspired cocktails were served. One of the highlights was the “Dessert Dash.” The fundraiser featured decadent treats from local bakeries including The Abbey We-Ho, Brady’s Bakery, SusieCakes, Winston Pies, Proof Bakery, and Flouring LA. Guests were able to bid on culinary creations. All proceeds benefited The Alexis Project.
Rosanna and David Arquette took to the stage to speak about their sister. Rosanna emphasized the importance of The Alexis Project’s work. “In today’s climate, their work is more important than ever… We are honored to have this important work being done in our sister’s name,” the actress said.
David Arquette echoed this sentiment, reflecting on Alexis’s legacy. “I know Alexis would be really happy. The fact that The Alexis Project is being celebrated tonight and Alexis is being celebrated is really important. I know Alexis would say something like, ‘What took you so long?'”
The evening also featured tributes from Stephen Baldwin, as well as from Dr. Astrid Heger and Dr. Tracey Samko, founders of The Alexis Project. They drove home the importance of the need for comprehensive, affirming care for transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse individuals, highlighting the significance of The Alexis Project’s mission. “Alexis, your light continues to shine, and tonight, we not only celebrate your artistry, your creativity, and your undeniable contribution to cinema, but your heart and spirit… and everything that made you, you,” Baldwin said. “I truly hope that my being here might help show, in some small way, that love and friendship are what can bring us all closer together.”
The event was sponsored by Gurus Magazine. Other generous sponsors included the Pritzker Foster Care Initiative and The Tom Petty Family, successfully raising over $25,000. The proceeds will go directly to supporting The Alexis Project’s services, providing medical, mental health, and support services tailored to the LGBTQ+ community.
The tribute to Alexis Arquette celebrated her vibrant spirit and called for continued advocacy and support. It was an evening where the memory of Alexis Arquette and the mission of The Alexis Project shone brightly, reminding everyone of the enduring impact of love, art, and community.
