Searchlight Pictures has released the second official trailer for Next Goal Wins, Taika Waititi’s new comedy film based on the American Samoa soccer team that was decimated in a 31-0 loss to Australia in a FIFA World Cup qualifying game in 2001.
The film covers the story of the world’s worst soccer team after that embarrassing loss as it tries to rebuild by hiring a down-on-his-luck, maverick coach, Thomas Rongen (Michael Fassbender), hoping to turn the lousy streak around.
In the trailer, we see the Thor: Ragnarok director talk about the story of this new film he is directing, along with short clips of scenes from the movie in which we see the players training and Fassbender in his role as the coach discussing the team with Alex Magnussen played by Will Arnett. Not only is Waititi the director, but we also get a glimpse of him playing a priest in the trailer.
Other stars joining Fassbender are Oscar Kightley as Tavita and Kaimana as Jaiyah.
Next Goal Wins runs into theaters on Nov. 17.
