Review: The Wrecking Crew (2026) – Big personalities, brutal action, and brotherly chaos
In The Wrecking Crew, Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa star as estranged brothers who are forced to work together when a dangerous mission pulls them back into each other’s orbit. Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto and written by Jonathan Tropper, the action-comedy also stars Jacob Batalon and centers on two men with completely different personalities who must rely on each other when everything begins to spiral out of control.
The film is exactly the kind of action movie you turn on when you want big personalities, big laughs, and a little controlled chaos. Bautista plays the older brother with a grounded, intimidating presence and a perfectly dry sense of humor, while Momoa leans into the impulsive younger sibling energy that keeps the story moving. Watching the two of them bicker, clash, and slowly find their rhythm together is easily the best part of the movie.
There’s also something genuinely refreshing about seeing two men of color leading a major action film with this kind of confidence and ease. Bautista, who is half Filipino, and Momoa, who is half Hawaiian, bring a natural authenticity to the screen that never feels forced. Their physical presence alone makes them believable action stars, but it’s their chemistry that really sells the partnership.
The action sequences are another highlight. With stunt coordination by Jon Valera, the fights are slick, brutal, and clearly staged in a way that lets you actually follow what’s happening. It avoids the shaky, over-edited style that often makes action scenes feel chaotic for the wrong reasons.
At the end of the day, The Wrecking Crew is all about the chemistry between Momoa and Bautista. The action is solid, the humor lands, and watching these two bounce off each other makes the whole thing worth the watch.
The Wrecking Crew is streaming on Prime Video, January 27th.
