‘Quantum Leap’ reboot gets greenlit for Season 2
Time to jump for joy! The reboot of Quantum Leap has been renewed for season 2! Starring Raymond Lee as Dr. Ben Song, the new iteration picks up three decades after the events of the original series.
“We’re leaping into a second season thanks to the incredible work by our cast, producers, writers and everyone who has played a role in giving this iconic NBC series a new life,” Lisa Katz, president of scripted content for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming said in a statement. “As we continue to bring audiences to our must-watch dramas, it’s gratifying to know ‘Quantum Leap’ will have a prominent place next season both on our NBC schedule and next day on Peacock.”
Lee is joined on screen by Ernie Hudson (Herbert ‘Magic’ Williams), Caitlin Bassett (Addison Augustine), Mason Alexander Park (Ian Wright), and Nanrisa Lee (Jenn Chu). The new series was developed by Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt and both are also executive producers. Martin Gero also serves as executive producer via Quinn’s House Productions. Gero joins Dean Georgaris, Don Bellisario, Deborah Pratt, and Chris Grismer. Universal Television produces in association with I Have an Idea! Entertainment, Belisarius Productions, and Quinn’s House.
The series pilot, which aired on Sept. 19, reached a 2.0 rating in adults ages 18-49 and 10.8 million viewers across all platforms. That makes it NBC’s best-ever drama launch on Peacock. It’s the No. 2 new broadcast show of the season in the 18-49 demo.
The original Quantum Leap aired on NBC for five seasons from 1989-1993, starring Scott Bakula as Dr. Sam Beckett and the late Dean Stockwell as Al Calavicci. Pratt, who is back for the reboot, not only served as co-producer and a writer on the original QL, but she also voiced Ziggy, the computer that helped guide Sam and Al on their leaps through time.
