Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’ Makes SAG Awards History

'Squid Game' is reaching its tentacles into every awards show this season, and making history while doing it

The 2022 Screen Actors Guild Award nominations were announced and the hit Netflix series earned four nominations, including outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series. The series also was recognized for: outstanding action performance by a stunt ensemble in a comedy or drama television series, outstanding performance by a male actor in a drama series for star Lee Jung-jae and outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series for star Jung Ho-yeon.

The nominations are particularly groundbreaking, marking the first non-English-language series and first Korean series to be recognized. Squid Game also is Netflix’s biggest debut ever, surpassing Bridgerton‘s previous viewership record on the streaming platform. Seasons 2 AND 3 are currently in discussion.

This rounds out a week of great news for “Squid Game” as O Yeong-su took home a history-making Golden Globe for his turn as Player 001, or Oh II-nam. The veteran actor beat the likes of Billy Crudup (“The Morning Show”), Kieran Culkin (“Succession”), Mark Duplass (“The Morning Show”), and Brett Goldstein (“Ted Lasso”) to take home the Best Supporting Actor in Television trophy.
