Netflix Partners with BIFF and Opens Festival with Korea’s ‘Uprising’

Netflix’s Uprising will open the 2024 Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) on Oct 2. The Kim Sang-man-directed film follows the story of two unlikely friends, a slave and a young master, who become adversaries during war. Uprising stars Gang Dong-won and Park Jeong-min and was produced by prominent filmmaker Park Chan-wook. BIFF described Uprising as a “historical masterpiece completed by Korea’s best film masters.”

Netflix will also premiere other Asian films, including Taiwan’s Born for the Spotlight, Japan’s Beyond Goodbye, and the second season of Korea’s Hellbound.

Not only is Netflix premiering films at BIFF this year, but it is also partnering with BIFF for the first time. As part of the collaboration, Netflix will present the inaugural Creative Asia Forum, a one-day event designed to nurture emerging filmmakers, creatives, and production professionals, according to the release.
