Netflix is surely Golden
It's great to be yellow, but even better to be golden
Netflix just launched a new social media channel titled Golden, dedicated to celebrating the pan-Asian diaspora. The new @NetflixGolden channels on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok will celebrate Netflix’s global Asian talent and storytelling, both in front of and behind the camera.
Golden joins Netflix’s other audience-focused and genre channels, including Strong Black Lead, Netflix Film, Geeked, and Most, among others. The title Golden was inspired by the phrase, “Real gold will always shine,” meaning that all Asian stories are golden, and if given the opportunity, they will shine.
Netflix has been developing Golden internally with partners over the past year and a half. It’s the first major initiative to launch under vice president of editorial and publishing Michelle Lee. Lee, who formerly served as Allure‘s editor-in-chief, joined the company last summer. Golden is not affiliated with Netflix Gold, the streamer’s marketing partnership with API-focused nonprofit Gold House. Lee, who recently joined the Gold House board, said that all of Netflix’s editorial and social channels would continue to seek collaborations with one another and partnerships where appropriate, in keeping with the intersectional nature of identity.
Along with coverage of Netflix titles, fans can also expect new episodes of “Spill the Boba Tea.” In collaboration with Wong Fu Productions, co-founder Philip Wang will chat with your favorite Netflix stars at his BOPOMOFO cafe while crafting unique boba tea drinks based on the stars’ lives. The first episode, featuring Emily in Paris star Ashley Park, debuts January 27.
