First Look: Movies To Watch this Holiday Season

This holiday season, most of the country was hit with extremely frigid weather making it difficult to go out or forcing many to cancel travel plans. Luckily, several good movies are available to stream from the comfort and safety of home or, if weather permits, to watch at a nearby movie theater. Here are some of the most popular films available to watch now.

Spirited

The Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell-led film has been making waves as the Christmas movie to watch this season. Spirited is inspired by Charles Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol, but it has a comedic and musical spin to it. Spirited is available to stream on Apple TV+. 

 

Violent Night

Violent Night is another new Christmas movie released this season. David Harbour steps into the jolly old man’s shoes, but his Santa goes above and beyond his traditional duties by taking on a vigilante-like role saving a little girl, Trudy (Leah Brady), and her family from a very violent Scrooge (John Leguizamo) in a gory but comedic movie. Violent Night is playing in movie theaters or is available to stream on Prime Video. 

 

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

A film all family members can enjoy, the latest adventure of the charismatic Puss in Boots has received rave reviews garnering a 96% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 93% audience score. In his new adventure, Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) seeks help from Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek) and a new friend, Perrito (Harvey Guillén), to go on a quest to find the wishing star to restore his lives as he is down to his last one. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is playing in movie theaters.

 

Avatar: The Way of Water 

James Cameron’s long-awaited sequel finally arrived in theaters on Dec. 16 and has been the current top movie at the box office ever since. In its first weekend, the film brought in $134 million per Box Office Mojo. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña return as the leads, Jake and Neytiri, in this latest installment, in which they must once again fight to protect the Na’vi’s home from old threats. Avatar: The Way of Water is playing in movie theaters.

 

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio

The king of creating creepy but lovable monsters takes on a classic tale with Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio. del Toro’s version of Pinocchio is darker, with a more realistic historical context as part of the story, so it puts a new perspective on it. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is available to stream on Netflix.
