Honorees Revealed for the Critics Choice Association’s Inaugural Celebration of Asian Pacific Cinema & Television

The Critics Choice Association (CCA) has announced the list of honorees for its inaugural Celebration of Asian Pacific Cinema & Television ceremony that will take place on Nov. 4 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, California.

According to the CSA’s press release, the ceremony will honor the finest achievements in front of and behind the camera and showcase emerging and established talent. 

Per the CCA, the list of honorees includes:

– Icon Award: James Hong for his prolific career and recent performance as Gong Gong in A24’s film, Everything Everywhere All at Once.

– Breakthrough Actor Award for Film: Joel Kim Booster for his performance as Noah in Searchlight Pictures’ film Fire Island, which he also wrote. 

– Director Award for Film: Park Chan-wook for his work on MUBI’s film, Decision to Leave, which he also co-wrote.

– Actress Award for Television: Zoë Chao for her performance as Zoë on Apple TV+’s series, The Afterparty.

– Actor Award for Film: John Cho for his performance as Max Park in Prime Video’s film, Don’t Make Me Go.

– Rising Star Award for Film presented by IMDbPro: Auli’i Cravalho for her performance as AJ Campos in Hulu’s film, Crush.

– Director Award for Television: Hwang Dong-hyuk for his Emmy-winning work on Netflix’s series Squid Game.

– Rising Star Award for Television presented by IMDbPro: Park Eun-bin for her performance as Woo Young-woo on Netflix’s series, Extraordinary Attorney Woo.

– Showrunner Award: Soo Hugh for her Emmy-nominated work on Apple TV+’s series, Pachinko.

– Breakthrough Actress Award for Film: Li Jun Li for her performance as Lady Fay Zhu in Paramount Picture’s film Babylon.

– Trailblazer Award: Karyn Kusama for her illustrious career and her Emmy-nominated work on Showtime’s series, Yellowjackets.

– Actor Award for Television: Nick Mohammed for his Emmy-nominated performance as Nathan Shelley on Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso

– Animated Film Award: Domee Shi for her work as a director and writer on Disney and Pixar’s film, Turning Red.

– Social Justice Award: David Siev for his work on IFC Films’ documentary Bad Axe as director and producer.

– Breakthrough Actress Award for Television: Élodie Yung for her performance as Thony on Fox/Warner Bros. television’s series, The Cleaning Lady.

– Ensemble Award for Television: The cast of Ms. Marvel for their performance on the Disney+ series.

In a statement regarding the event, CCA’s CEO, Joey Berlin, said, “We are thrilled with the response from the studios and networks and their support in recognizing the outstanding talent from the Asian American Pacific Islander community at our inaugural Celebration.

Kylie Mar, who is a CCA member and is the co-programmer and co-writer for the event, said, “For a first-time event, it makes us immensely proud to showcase these films and shows and shine a light on these extraordinary individuals.”

This gala event will not only recognize the accomplishments and contributions of the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities to film and television, but it will also help fund a film production grant for a rising filmmaker by donating a portion of the proceeds to the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment (CAPE).

Madelyn Hammond & Associates’ Madelyn Hammond and Javier Infante will produce the show.

Event sponsors include Delta Air Lines, Fairmont Century Plaza, GreenSlate, IMDbPro, and Milagro Tequila.
