Hollywood Forever to Celebrate 25th Annual Día De Los Muertos with Tonas & Nahuales

Hollywood Forever is set to bring back its annual Día De Los Muertos celebration on Oct. 26.

In its 25th year, the annual Day of the Dead celebration will feature live musical performances and art and sculpture exhibitions. This year’s theme will have visitors step into the mystical world of Tonas and Nahuales, spiritual guides and guardians of indigenous Mesoamerican cultures.

Famous Mexican ranchera artist Pedro Fernández will headline the event. Other artists performing include the legendary band Los Lobos, Reyna Tropical, Ambar Lucid, El Santo Golpe, and Tania Libertad, with more artists to be announced.

Antonio Fuentes will be the featured visual artist at this year’s event. His hand-carved and painted Xoloitzcuintli (Mexican hairless dog sacred to the Aztecs) sculpture will be the centerpiece of the art event.

There will also be an exhibition of Haitian Vodou flags (beaded and sequined wall hangings) with images of gods and goddesses from the Vodou pantheon. This exhibition will also feature a cross-exploration of the Haitian Vodou Spirit of Death and Guide to the Afterlife, Baron Samedi, who is often depicted as a skeleton figure in a top hat and black tail coat smoking a cigar and drinking rum.
