Hollywood First Look is with directors Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand, talking about Disney’s upcoming animated feature Hexed. Starring Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones, the film follows an awkward teenager and her Type-A mother whose lives are turned upside down when they discover that the girl’s unusual quirks may actually be magical powers, opening the door to a hidden magical realm.
In this exclusive interview, Veerasunthorn and Hand explain why establishing Billie’s personality before introducing the magic was so important, how they ensured her story celebrates individuality rather than conformity, and what made Steinfeld and Jones the right voices for the film.
