The 76th Annual Primetime Emmy nominations were unveiled Wednesday morning, marking a significant year for television with groundbreaking achievements and long-awaited recognitions. FX’s “Shōgun“ emerged as a powerhouse, clinching 25 nominations, including nods for stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai. This success propelled FX to second place among networks with a total of 93 nominations, following closely behind Netflix’s impressive 107 nods.
Leading the comedy category was FX’s “The Bear,“ which shattered records with 23 nominations, surpassing the previous record set by “30 Rock“ in 2009. The series had already made waves in its debut season, securing 10 wins the previous year. Additionally, FX celebrated a breakthrough with “Reservation Dogs,“ earning its first-ever comedy series nomination, a moment long awaited by fans and critics alike.
Meanwhile, Netflix continued its dominance across genres, with “The Crown“ leading its pack with 18 nominations.
Other standout titles included “Ripley“ and “Baby Reindeer,“ contributing to Netflix’s substantial tally. The streaming giant reaffirmed its position as a major player in the industry, outpacing traditional networks like HBO, which garnered 91 nominations.
Notable performances and stories also earned their due recognition. “Only Murders in the Building“ secured 21 nominations, finally recognizing Selena Gomez’s acting prowess in its third season. HBO’s “True Detective: Night Country“ led the limited series category with 19 nominations, while NBC’s “Saturday Night Live“ continued its perennial success with 17 nods.
The announcement, delivered by Emmy winners Tony Hale and Sheryl Lee Ralph, heralded a diverse and dynamic field of nominees. Hale, known for his role in “Veep,“ and Ralph, acclaimed for “Abbott Elementary,“ were joined by new Television Academy chair Cris Abrego in unveiling this year’s contenders.
The 76th Emmy Awards ceremony will be broadcast live from Los Angeles’ LA Live Peacock Theatre on Sunday, September 15, and air on ABC.
