From Friends to On-Screen Romance: Kahyun Kim and Mekki Leeper on St. Denis Medical

Hollywood First Look sits down with Kahyun Kim and Mekki Leeper to explore Season 3 of St. Denis Medical, NBC’s workplace comedy where Serena and Matt are finally taking their relationship beyond the awkward flirting and misunderstandings that kept fans guessing for two seasons.

Kahyun and Mekki reflect on the fun of building their characters’ slow-burning romance and why finally getting to play a couple allows them to bring more of their real-life friendship into the story. Kahyun reveals how Matt’s openness and curiosity bring out a more vulnerable side of Serena, giving audiences a glimpse of a woman who is usually confident and in control. Meanwhile, Mekki shares how Matt is becoming more comfortable in his role as a nurse while remaining the lovable, occasionally naive character fans know.

The conversation takes a personal turn when Mekki explains how his admiration for Kahyun’s experience and classical acting training mirrors Matt’s respect for Serena. Just as Matt learns from Serena at the hospital, Mekki finds himself learning from Kahyun on set, adding another layer of authenticity to their on-screen chemistry.
