Warner Bros. Pictures has released the official trailer for Wonka, the new movie based on the character of Willy Wonka from Roald Dahl’s iconic “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”
This film is a prequel to the 1971 classic film that features Gene Wilder in the eccentric chocolatier’s role. As such, this one will focus on a young Willy Wonka as he sets out to build his chocolate factory and change the world with his unique and magical creations. In the trailer, we see him facing off with the intimidating chocolate cartel and delighting people with chocolates that make them fly.
The trailer gives a glimpse of Timothée Chalamet as the titular character and of Hugh Grant as the Oompa-Loompa in the story. Among stars joining the chocolate-filled adventure are Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Oscar winner Olivia Colman, Natasha Rothwell, Rich Fulcher, Rakhee Thakrar, Tom Davis and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.
Paddington filmmaker Paul King is at the helm of Wonka as director and as a co-writer of the screenplay with Simon Farnaby. Executive producers on the film are Michael Siegel, Cate Adams, Rosie Alison, and Tim Wellspring.
Wonka will hit theaters on December 15.
