Your favorite pizza-loving superheroes are back! After years of being sheltered from the human world, the “TMNT” have resurfaced to tell a different story of turtle power.
The Paramount Pictures project, helmed by director Jeff Rowe, features an all-star voice cast and shines a new light on the familiar tale. From the looks of the recently-released trailer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem focuses on the turtles’ early years as they’re still trying to get a grip on their powers.
Set against the gritty New York City streets, the turtles operate in the shadows in an attempt to keep the city safe from Bebop (Seth Rogen) and Rocksteady (John Cena). But, thanks to a very special friend, April O’Neil (Ayo Edebiri), these heroes in a half shell are likely to prove that life in the sewer can be a path that earns them acceptance and even love.
With the help of April O’Neil, our favorite crime-fighting reptiles take on a mysterious crime syndicate and are then faced with an army of mutants. They may have started off as baby turtles who incidentally made contact with some “mystery ooze,” but now, as teenagers, these heroes are out to save the day and win the hearts of their fellow New Yorkers while doing it.
The film features Jackie Chan as master rat martial artist Splinter. His four adoptive sons: Donatello, Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Raphael, are played by Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, and Brady Noon, respectively.
The movie also stars Hannibal Buress, Rose Byrne, Paul Rudd, Maya Rudolph, Ice Cube, Natasia Demetriou, Giancarlo Esposito, and Post Malone.
The film is based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. It’s co-directed by Kyler Spears. The film is executive produced by Ramsay McBean and Josh Fagen, and Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver serve as producers. Rogen’s production company, Point Grey Pictures, began development in 2020 in collaboration with Paramount and Nickelodeon Movies.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem hits theaters on August 4, 2023.
