First Look: The ‘Ms. Marvel’ trailer is out of this world

The original series is streaming on Disney+ June 8

The trailer for Marvel Studios’ “Ms. Marvel” dropped today, and in it, we get a look at MCU’s first Muslim superhero. Ms. Marvel is Kamala Khan [Iman Vellani], a teenager navigating her way through the pangs of high school only to emerge as a superhero.

The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” powers the one-minute and 47-second teaser where we get some insight into how Kamala Khan deals with her growing superpowers. Unlike the comics, it appears that this version of Ms. Marvel’s abilities may have come to her in a more cosmic way.

In the trailer, we see that Kamala Khan is an avid gamer and doesn’t hide the fact that she loves to pen fan-fiction. The mega superhero fan with an overactive imagination (especially when it comes to Captain Marvel) gets the awakening of a lifetime when she discovers that life is better with superpowers — right? Her New Jersey classmates may not think superheroes are cool, but she’s likely to prove them otherwise.

The cast includes Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, Azhar Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha.

Head writer Bisha K. Ali [‘Loki’] is joined by directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah [‘Bad Boys for Life’], Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Bisha K. Ali serve as executive producers. Co-executive producers are Sana Amanat and Trevor Waterson.

The series premieres on Disney+ on June 8.

Iman Vellani will again take on the role of Ms. Marvel in the upcoming film, “The Marvels,” which is set for a February 2023 release. The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, and Park Seo-joon.
