First Look: Netflix releases ‘Blue Eye Samurai’ Trailer and teases Soundtrack Ahead of November 3 Debut
Dive into the World of Mizu and the Edo-Period Epic with an Electrifying Soundtrack by Amie Doherty
In a world where swords clash, secrets unravel, and revenge takes center stage, Blue Eye Samurai is set to redefine the art of storytelling. With a captivating mix of adult animation and live-action elements, this visually stunning (TV-MA) series will debut on Netflix on November 3. The trailer and soundtrack (released today) will instantly transport you to the heart of Edo-period Japan.
Meet Mizu, a mixed-race master of the sword with a hidden agenda. Voiced by the talented Maya Erskine [PEN15], Mizu embarks on a quest for revenge against the four white men who made her a “creature of shame.” She was taken in by the Swordmaker and learned to forge, then wield swords. She wears amber-tinted sunglasses to hide her blue eyes and disguises herself as a man. As secrets unfold and blades clash, this series promises a gripping and visually immersive experience.
The masterminds responsible for crafting this epic saga are creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, who also serve as executive producers and writers. The writing team also includes Yana Bille-Chung. Erwin Stoff takes on the role of executive producer, while Jane Wu supervises the direction and production. Nick Read and Haven Alexander serve as producers, along with directors Jane Wu, Ryan O’Loughlin, Earl A. Hibbert, Alan Wan, Michael Green, Sunny Sun, and Alan Taylor. The animation studio is Blue Spirit.
The stellar voice cast is a who’s who of talent, with names like George Takei (Seki), Masi Oka (Ringo), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (The Swordmaker), Brenda Song (Akemi), Darren Barnet (Taigen), Randall Park (Heiji Shindo), and Kenneth Branagh (Abijah Fowler) lending their voices to this groundbreaking series. The supporting voice cast includes Stephanie Hsu (Ise), Ming-Na Wen (Madame Kaji), Harry Shum Jr. (Takayoshi), and Mark Dacascos (Chiaki). It’s truly a star-studded ensemble.
Behind every great cinematic masterpiece is an unforgettable soundtrack. Composed by the talented Amie Doherty, the Blue Eye Samurai soundtrack is a musical delight that perfectly complements the series’ gripping narrative.
Doherty shares her thoughts on the experience: “Blue Eye Samurai is an extraordinarily beautiful and creative show that I feel so privileged to have written the music for… The score called for lots of opposites – epic, orchestral moments to intimate, solo instrumentals; driving action sequences to sweeping and lush melodies; a musical East-meets-West blending Japanese scales & tonalities with the more traditionally Western orchestra and vice versa.”
The soundtrack features a tracklist that mirrors the series’ rich tapestry of emotions and adventures:
- Blue Eye Samurai (Mizu Suite)
- Stranger In Town
- The Heavens Throw Treasure
- A Young Edo Bride
- Thank You For My Ember
- Akemi’s Theme (Suite)
