Disney+ is upping their original series game and just dropped the first look at a featurette for their new series, AMERICAN BORN CHINESE. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Gene Luen Yang, and follows an average teenager named Jin Wang as he juggles his high school social life with his home life. When he meets a new student on the first day of school, their seemingly different worlds collide and the modern day meets mythological Gods.
The series is produced by 20th Television for Disney+. Emmy Award winner, Kelvin Yu, serves as executive producer and showrunner. The premiere episode is directed by Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘ Destin Daniel Cretton who has also signed on as executive producer. Melvin Mar, Jake Kasdan, Erin O’Malley, Asher Goldstein, and Gene Luen Yang all serve as executive producers as well.
Disney Branded Television revealed a peek of the action-packed series during the D23 Expo over the weekend. It came with an exclusive video featuring clips, behind-the-scenes footage, and interviews from the cast and creative team.
The series features a talented international cast, most of whom are of Chinese or Chinese-American descent, including the illustrious Michelle Yeoh, Ben Wang, Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Daniel Wu, Ke Huy Quan, Jim Liu, and Sydney Taylor.
