Eminem is making a comeback and is the newly minted King of Gold and Platinum Singles, according to the Recording Industry Association of Artists. His performance alongside Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, and Dr. Dre at the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show reignited his popularity. Eminem, aka Marshall Mathers, took home the accolade for being the No. 1 awarded act for singles in the 64-year history of the Gold and Platinum program, according to RIAA. Eminem has a total of 73.5 million new award units as of Tuesday, March 8, putting the Oscar winner’s career total at 227.5 million: 166 million single certifications and 61.5 million album certifications.
Eminem is one of seven artists with three or more Diamond-certified albums. Eminem won a Best Original Oscar for “Lose Yourself” from the 2002 film “8 Mile,” where he also starred. It made history as the first hip-hop track to win the Academy Award. In addition, he is nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2022 class. He is in good company with Dolly Parton, Rage Against the Machine, and Lionel Richie.
