Disney Unveils First Image for ‘TRON: Ares’

Disney has released the first image for TRON: Ares, the newest chapter in the TRON franchise, which is slated for release in 2025.

The image appears to be of Ares, a highly sophisticated Program / AI sent from the digital world into the real world. Its appearance in the real world would mark the first encounter between humankind and AI. In the image, Ares is in a black suit with red lighting, with red lighting being a throwback to the 1982 original film. Jared Leto, who is set to play Ares, shared the image across his social media channels with the caption, “ARE YOU READY??”

TRON: Ares is a follow-up to the original 1982 film TRON and its 2010 sequel TRON: LEGACY. The film will feature a star-studded cast alongside Leto, including Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson.

Director Joachim Rønning shared his excitement about being part of the film, “I’m excited to be part of the TRON franchise and bring this new film to fans around the world. TRON: Ares builds upon the legacy of cutting-edge design, technology and storytelling. Now more than ever, it feels like the right time to return to the Grid.”

Leto also produces the film with Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Emma Ludbrook, and Steven Lisberger. Russell Allen is serving as executive producer.
