Apple Releases Premiere and First Image for ‘The Last of the Sea Women’

Apple Original Films has announced the global premiere date for the documentary The Last of the Sea Women. The film, which will premiere as an official selection of The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), was directed by Sue Kim and produced by Malala Yousafzai. It will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on Oct. 11.

Alongside the announcement of the premiere date, Apple Original Films also released the first image of the documentary, which follows the story of the “haenyeo” of South Korea’s Jeju Island. The “haenyeo” (translation from Korean “Sea Women”) are female divers who began training in their childhood to dive into deep waters to harvest a variety of things, including abalone and sea urchins. Some of the oldest “haenyeo” are over 80 years old and have been diving for over six decades.

Kim not only directed the documentary but also produced it with Yousafzai and Erika Kennair. Nicole Stott, Emily Osborne, Harry Go, and Marissa Torres Ericson served as executive producers.
