Sneakerheads rejoice! Amazon Studios has released the trailer for its upcoming film Air, which tells the story of the game-changing collaboration between Nike and basketball phenom and rookie Michael Jordan that leads to the creation of one of the most iconic sneakers and brands – the Air Jordan.
Longtime friends and collaborators Ben Affleck and Matt Damon reunite to tell this story, with Damon taking on the lead role as Sonny Vaccaro, a Nike executive tasked with revamping and saving Nike’s struggling basketball division. Affleck takes on the part of Nike co-founder and Vaccaro’s boss, Phil Knight, who also directed the film.
Viola Davis joins the cast as Deloris Jordan, Michael Jordan’s mother. Deloris was a fierce advocate for her son and was instrumental in negotiating the deal with Nike. Julius Tennon will play opposite Davis as the basketball legend’s father, James Jordan.
Rounding out the star-studded cast are Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Marlon Wayans, Chris Tucker, Matthew Maher, and Gustaf Skarsgård.
Air will open exclusively in theaters on April 5.
