Actor Ke Huy Quan Takes home the award for Best Supporting Actor at the 80th annual Golden Globes

Always remember who gave you a chance. That’s exactly what actor Ke Huy Quan did when he won his first Golden Globe for his supporting role in A24’s Everything Everywhere All at OnceQuan started off his speech by thanking his first boss — legendary director Steven Spielberg who cast him as “Short Round” in the iconic film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

“I was raised to never forget where I came from and to always remember who gave me my first opportunity,” Quan announced to the room. “I am so happy to see Steven Spielberg here tonight,” he said. Steven, thank you!” Quan began his career in Spielberg’s film and felt fortunate to be a part of the classic hit as a child actor. He said he started to wonder if his stint was a one-off experience but said he was thankful for the opportunity that Everything Everywhere All At Once directors Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert gave to him.

“They remembered that kid, and they gave me an opportunity to try again. Everything, everything that has happened since has been unbelievable,” Quan said. “Dan Kwan, Daniel Scheinert, thank you so, so much for helping me find my answer. You have given me more than I could have ever hoped.”

The Goonies actor went on to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and his Everything Everywhere All at Once team before honoring his wife, Corinna Ke Quan, who he lovingly referred to as the most important person in his life, who “never stopped believing” in him. “I love you with all my heart,” the actor said.

Quan won for his role as “Waymond Wang” in Everything Everywhere All at Once, beating out Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan, Eddie Redmayne, and Brad Pitt for the honor.

The 80th annual Golden Globes took place in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton on January 10, 2023. The awards ceremony was hosted by Jerrod Carmichael and aired on NBC.
