6 Spooky Movies to Watch this Halloween Night

Halloween falls on Tuesday this week, and if you don’t have any plans to trick-or-treat, there are several movies you can catch at the theater or from the comfort of your home. Here is a list of some exciting watches that are out now.

 1. Five Nights at Freddy’s

The popular video game finally comes to life on the big screen thanks to scary movie experts Blumhouse and Universal Pictures. The film follows a troubled security guard on his first night working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, which turns out to be a terrifying experience. Josh Hutcherson leads the cast along with Piper Rubio, Elizabeth Lail, and Matthew Lillard. This film was just released on Oct. 27 and led the box office for Halloween weekend. It’s a must-watch! Five Nights at Freddy’s is playing in theaters and streaming on Peacock.

2. The Exorcist: Believer

Five Nights at Freddy’s isn’t the only Universal Pictures / Blumhouse collab this spooky season; they also teamed up with Morgan Creek Entertainment and Rough House Pictures to bring The Exorcist: Believer, a sequel to the highly acclaimed cult classic, The Exorcist. This new film sees Ellen Burstyn reprise her role as Chris MacNeil for the first time since the original film in 1973. In this story, she helps Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom Jr.), a father trying to save his daughter and her friend from demonic forces. The Exorcist: Believer is in theaters and streaming on Prime Video.

3. Saw X

Lionsgate is expanding its popular Saw franchise this Halloween season with Saw X. Tobin Bell returns once more to reprise his iconic role as John Kramer / Jigsaw. This story takes place between the events of the original Saw and Saw II and finds John traveling to Mexico seeking a cure for his cancer, only to find that the whole operation is a scam. Head to the theater to see John Kramer’s new story or watch it at home on Prime Video.

4. The Nun II

Warner Bros. Pictures is expanding The Conjuring universe with the sequel to its highly successful horror film, The Nun. New Line Cinema brings back Taissa Farmiga as Sister Irene and Bonnie Aarons as Valak, the demon nun, to face each other once more in The Nun II. Joining Farmiga and Aarons are Jonas Bloquet, Storm Reid, and Anna Popplewell. The Nun II is playing in theaters and streaming on Max and Prime Video.

5. The Boogeyman

20th Century Studios and 21 Laps jumped into the Halloween season early in the summer when they released The Boogeyman on June 2. The horror-thriller is based on a story by Stephen King and follows the story of a grieving family who find themselves suddenly facing a terrifying supernatural entity that preys and feeds on the suffering of its victims. Sophie Thatcher, Chris Messina, Vivien Lyra Blair, Marin Ireland, Madison Hu, LisaGay Hamilton, and David Dastmalchian make up the star-studded cast. The Boogeyman is still playing in some theaters, but it is also available to stream on Hulu and Prime Video.

6. Haunted Mansion

If horror movies are too scary, Disney offers Haunted Mansion as a more family-friendly option. The theme park-based film tells the story of a mother and son who move into a haunted house and hire a colorful group of characters to help them get rid of all the haunting ghosts. Haunted Mansion boasts a stellar cast, including LaKeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson, Owen Wilson, Tiffany Haddish, Danny DeVito, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jared Leto. You can still find Haunted Mansion in some theaters, but your best bet is to stream it on Disney+.
