Here are the FIVE things you need to know.
1. THE PREMISE
Nathan Lind (Alexander Skarsgård) declares that this “is their only chance, and they have to take it.” The trailer cuts to Kong being captured, and it is insinuated that Kong may be humanity’s only hope against Godzilla, who has somehow become the villain in this Monsterverse.
2. THE CHILD
A young girl (Kaylee Hottle) is introduced to the audience. She is an orphan from the island from where Kong has been taken, and it’s let known that she is the only person who can communicate with Kong. It is revealed that this child has a personal connection with the world’s favorite gigantic gorilla, and apparently, he will protect her at all costs.
As Kong is being transported across the ocean on a large vessel, his presence stirs Godzilla to rise from deep under the ocean. Of course, it’s Godzilla vs. Kong, so things (in this case: ships and planes) inevitably get destroyed, blown up, and sink. The two titans battle it out over reasons still unexplained, with this scene showing that Kong is an obvious, equal match to the ginormous reptile.
4. THE RETURN
Madison (Mille Bobby Brown) and Dr. Russell (Kyle Chandler) are back! Madison is a little older and, hopefully, a little wiser. She decides to go on the hunt to solve the mystery as to what may be provoking Godzilla towards his vicious rampage on humankind.
5. THE REALITY
Irene Andrews (Rebecca Hall) states that “the myths are real, there was a war, and they are last ones standing,” and continues, saying, “Kong bows to no one.” This reveals that Godzilla and Kong are the last two titans on earth, and only one (you assume) can be the alpha. This will all lead up to a grudge match of epic proportion.
THE KONGCLUSION
Godzilla vs. Kong, from the trailer, you can already see that it will be a monumental battle between the last remaining titans. And regardless of who wins, this film is one you don’t want to miss!
Godzilla vs. Kong will be released in theaters and available to stream on HBOMax on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.
The article was updated on February 23, 2021 to revise the theatrical and streaming release date.
