Disney Junior’s upcoming animated mystery-adventure series is dropping new clues every day about what fans can expect. The show’s debut is slated for the spring of 2020. But it’s the content, and the characters, that have had people buzzing with excitement. Mira (voiced by 16-year-old Leela Ladnie) is joined by an all-star cast of well-known South Asian actors. The show is inspired by Indian cultures and customs, making it the first of its kind. Disney Junior has already given the green light for a season 2 renewal, ahead of the series debut. The announcement was made in December during a special advance screening in Burbank, California.
On February 3, audiences finally got a first look at the characters. Disney Junior revealed the main animated characters, alongside the top South Asian actors in Hollywood who will be voicing their roles. The actors include Jameela Jamil, Freida Pinto, Kal Penn, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Hannah Simone, Aasif Mandvi, and Aparna Nancherla.
On February 4, the day after the character reveal, the show’s theme song was released. Songwriters Jeannie Lurie and Matthew Tishler and South Asian music consultant Deepak Ramapriyan, brought together a team of the world’s finest Indian and South Asian musicians. Talent from L.A. to Mumbai was called on to contribute. Artists include the world-renowned Zakir Hussain, who plays tabla on the track. Additional musicians include Rajib Karmakar, Neelamjit Dhillon, and Sheela Bringi, among others. Cast members are involved as well. Leela, Kal, and Utkarsh are among the featured vocals on the track.
Here’s the theme song for “Mira, Royal Detective.”
